A fresh [?] mobile network ...

New O2-UK MVNO, giffgaff launched today. So payg simcard order placed, and I appear to be customer No 520.

With free on-net vid/voice calls & sms, may have to consider extending business mobiles to shopfloor - or at least parents [though they wouldn't look forward to being taught to use handset pop3 email, afforded by giffgaff 's free data introductory offer.

Good to see a network [re-]introducing free 0800 calls for mobiles - a value Ofcom has never pursued in the interest of the public.

The Microsoft Chronicles Of Riddickulousness ...

Desktops, ship-shape. Completed netbooks setup, running unexpectedly quickly [until security appns installed, that is!].

Laptop thorns however. Office Genuine Advantage happily informs that whilst my activation key is valid for Enterprise [as a large corporate user], and the XP Pro o/s is also genuine, Home & Student 2007 should be being used. So Office Enterprise has been invalidated.

Huh - a grubby student in a home, moi? This is not going to end well, or quickly. Cap'n Billy Gates - you're the pirate!

Patchy ...

By The Unpearly Gates Of Microsoft, just finished the 98 patches & 500Gb for the first MS Update of new netbook!

In the hours it's taken, have had the time to add extra RAM in the '06 desktop, and have installed Office Enterprise '07 in the '09 desktop. That latter suite needed 46 patches itself, totalling another 700MB! So am currently installing in the netbook too, just to see if will actually run - not crawl - in a pc of limited power.

Still, whilst such as MS Office Groove doesn't thrill me, tomorrow's task of eradicating any trace of Vista from laptop will be an ecstatic experience. The relief of utilitarian XP Pro - no whizz or bangs, just plenty of thrust!

*that's how I roll*

Raison d'ĂȘtre ...

This micro nano-blog is intended as a lo-media content repository for those small addenda that spill over from individual tweets - such as tweets longer than the 140 character limit - and for solely text-based blog posts.

If my blogs were to be recombined into one master mold, the pages would be too heavy for your browsers to reasonably spend time loading.

Tidying Up Twitpic and Mobypicture ... Evolving Beyond Twitter

Even though I posted my 1000th tweet recently, I find myself only now discerning the ephemeral, transitory nature of Twitter - and it's associated photo/media services of Twitpic & Mobypicture.

Simply put, everything gets lost in the [twitter]stream. Beyond a day or a week, it becomes entirely unwieldy to attempt to search for posts that are indexed only by time & date. Twitter is indeed "what I am doing right now", but not "what was I doing 3 weeks ago?". Similarly trying to track those more personal posts concerning thinking/feeling/musing is literally wasting time.

Whilst that may be suited to the casual chit-chat of instant messaging, it's to the detriment of micro-blogging; and it's the latter service that I find of use. For like many, such creativity/ability//inclination that I may possess does not extend as far as administering a website or full blog; and my available time is beginning to preclude maintaining all Twitpic's pics, Mobypicture's pics/audio/video, Vimeo's longer vids  - let alone Tumblr.

Yet I am moving beyond the now of 140 characters of text and the quick snap or a/v post that I wouldn't care to look at again. I find myself capable of more; and also wondering how many others - having been introduced to accessible blogging through Twitter - will not so much jump to the next fad, but just evolve beyond it.

Perhaps Posterous can service such a group. It's a little early in my own usage to personally assess [hence the present continuance of my Tumblr blog]; however being able to collate my detrius in one spot is appearing increasingly attractive.

Twisted Twitter Timeline

As of approx 18hrs ago, the twittering overlords admitted to database malfunctions affecting proper display of the timeline.

It’s untrue that this is the premise for the next episode of “Dr Who”; as has been their claim that repetition of the issue was unlikely.

Twitter Timeline: now you see it, now you don't

All silent on the information front, as Twitter continues to follow Apple in keeping users ignorant of it’s service status.

The original timeline was restored, approx 20hrs after tweets went missing. Naturally I assumed the service functioning fully again. How foolish, how naive. For, once more, Twitter has cast an invisibility spell on my tweetstream. If there’s a point where science & magic become indistinguishable, this may be it.

Twitter has lost my Tweets - Everything's Tumbling Now

Fifteen and counting tonight; which prompted me to start this Tumblog.

Whether it will be used as a blog, and not a scrapbook, hasn’t been decided. Though the ease of it’s setup is most appealing. I’m not after something pretty at this stage, just something that isn’t a hassle to administer (are you listening, Twitter?).

All the same, Tumblr has misplaced two audio & one video emailed posts; and the associated Vimeo account failed to convert one avi video. So social media isn’t looking like the future today.

Lost Already!

Good Lord, Twitter you HAVE lost the original of the post below ALREADY. Check your calendar: April 1st isn’t for another couple of weeks, you know.

Update: 35 tweets errant. THIRTY-FIVE! The “twit” in “twitter” is taking on a whole old meaning.
